Small bedrooms can be difficult to design for, especially if you are not wishing for symmetry or the matchy-matchy aesthetic. Tip: In a small bedroom, you may have no other choice but to place your bed in front of a window. If this is the case, consider creating a nice focal point with your headboard and window treatments. A bed in front of the window can look fantastic, as long as the headboard does not block the entire window — try to keep to centered.

1. This serene bedroom is in tight quarters, with only 30″ between the bed and the sliding closet door. Next to the bed is a simple mirrored finish side table. This works great for opening up the space and reflecting / adding additional light. 2. A 1950's era home features this cozy master bedroom that lacked character and space. The designers added some tricks to create beautiful aesthetics and spaciousness. They added crown molding detail to the focal wall behind the bed. Furnishings were kept to a minimum—replacing an existing closet and dressers with built-in cabinetry along one wall. The space caters to both masculine and feminine. Black painted furniture is softened with a pretty chandelier, delicate hardware and deep coral velvet cushions (switched out with the seasons). If you have this same problem, you can add some textural or patterned window treatments to help disguise the window, while at the same time adding some visual aesthetics. In this space, floor-to-ceiling window panels adds visual affect, while in the center, a roman shade conceals the glazing. 6. Lighting Tip: Setting your light fixture to the right height can be tricky. Consider an overall height of 20 -24″ from the ceiling. Lighting can be distracting if your bedroom ceiling height is too low. You should also be mindful of the scale of the fixture against the size of your room. Consider asking your electrician to hold it up in the spot you would like it reside.
